PCI Compliant Remote Access

If you use PCCharge or IP Charge, it is important that you read this.

According to VISA, remote access is one of the top three vulnerabilities for point-of-sale systems.

Section 8 of the PCI Data Security Standard requires the use of two-factor authentication for all remote access. In simple terms, two-factor means that in addition to usernames and passwords, you have something that receives a special access code for every remote session.

In order to be compliant with PCI regulations, two-factor authentication is required for remote accesses for any systems still using PC Charge or IP Charge. If you do not have encrypted card readers or separate stand-alone credit card terminals, you are longer PCI compliant without using a remote access solution that provides two-factor remote access. VNC, LogMeIn, etc are not PCI compliant.

Benefits of two-factor authentication:

• PCI compliant remote access.
• You (and our support staff) can remotely access your systems without disrupting store personnel.
• Access your systems after hours with no one at the location in a compliant manner.

How does it work?

• Step 1) Log in as usual using user name and password
• Step 2) System will send a separate access code to user's cell phone or email. Enter the code to gain access.
• We set everything up and can add as many users as you would like.

Cost: $10 per month, per location. There is no limit to number of users.

How do I know if I am using PC CHarge or IP Charge?

• If you have integrated processing and your processor is National Merchant, you are likely using IP Charge.
• If you have integrated processing and you are not using National Merchant or Securenet, you are most likely using PC Charge.
• Note: If you have stand-alone terminals, you are not using either.
